9th Press Festival Celebration

November 9, 2017

On November 8, Sias International University's Student Press Corps, in association with the School of Journalism and Communication, and the Sias News Center, held its 9th Press Festival Party to celebrate Journalist's Day. Sias President, Dr. Chen Sikun, and Assistant Principals, Sun Rujian and Guo Xuede attended the party along with members of the Sias News Center, and students from the Student Press Corps and the School of Journalism and Communication. Over 400 teachers and students were present.

Dr. Chen Sikun delivered a speech and recited a poem that he composed in appreciation for the Sias News Center and the student journalists. He said that journalism was crucial to accountability and development, as well as reform and innovation. He spoke about the different platforms for journalism and the influence of international news. He encouraged all the student journalists to continue their contributions to Sias.

Assistant Principals, Sun Rujian and Guo Xuede, presented certificates of admission to the new members of the Student Press Corps. Sias President, Dr. Chen Sikun, then presented awards to the Outstanding Student Journalists of 2017. The awards ceremony was followed by performances by students from the various schools at Sias.

In the year 2000, the General Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China designated the 8th of November as Journalist's Day. It is one of the three 'trade festivals' in China, the others being Nurse's Day and Teacher's Day.
