November 7, 2016

The International Culture Week Finale, the closing ceremony of the week-long International Culture Week at Sias, was held on November 5. The chief guests were Secretary-General of the Global Chinese Association, Sun Shumei; Director of the Information Department of the Guangming Daily newspaper, Li Yusheng; famous artist, Bai Xuelang; Director of the Henan Information Center, Wang Dejun; and the President of Xinzheng City Construction Bank, Li Hongchao. Members of the Sias hierarchy were also present, including the Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen; Sias Party Secretary, Fei Hexiang; President Dr. Chen Sikun; Deputy Party Secretary, Li Huafeng; and Assistant Principal, Sun Rujian; along with teachers and students of Sias. Dr. Chen Sikun presided over the ceremony.

Dr. Shawn Chen introduced the guests and delivered a speech. He said that over the course of the past 18 years, Sias has consistently held the International Culture Week so that students would understand the diversity that exists in the world, and would learn about the trends of development, as well as increase their knowledge of other cultures. All this would promote Sino-foreign cultural exchanges. He spoke about Sias' internationalized campus including the Chinese Garden, Italian Square, Russian 'Red' Square, and Roman Amphitheater, and the global feel that it brings to education at Sias. The fusion of Eastern and Western cultures at Sias provides a unique backdrop for creativity, technological and cultural innovation and entrepreneurship among the students.

In a speech, the foreign teacher representative, Adam Wilson, said that the International Culture Week gave students a taste of customs and cuisine from around the world, which in turn would broaden their horizons for learning and thinking. He also spoke of Sias' educational resources that could enrich and improve the lives of students. Student representative, Ma Ruixuan, spoke of the impact on students' lives that Sias' activities and exhibitions gave. Not only was the education grounded in traditional Chinese culture, but there is a continual immersion into international cultures as well.

The Finale's festivities then began with a traditional Lion Dance and a performance by some of Sias' foreign faculty. Chinese students as well as students from the United States, Canada, Laos, Kyrgyzstan, and other countries performed as well.
