Sias Founder invited to 4th CPEC Universities Conference

The 4th Conference of the CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor) Consortium of Universities, henceforth referred to as the "Alliance Exchange Mechanism Conference" was held as a combined online and offline (in-person) event on the 15th of October. The conference was held at Peking University in Beijing, China, and the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad, Pakistan.


Chief guests at the event included the President of the Chinese Association of Higher Education (CAHE), and former Deputy Party Secretary and Vice Minister at the Ministry of Education, Du Yubo; Pakistan's Minister of Education, Shafkat Mehmood; the Party Secretary and Director of the Council of Peking University, Qiu Pingping; Pakistan's Ambassador to China, Moin ul Haque; Member of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology, Shu Wei; Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Dr. Shaista Sohail; China's Ambassador to Pakistan, Nong Rong; Member of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, and former President of the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Lt. Gen. Muhammad Asgar (Retd.); and the President of NUST, Lt. Gen. Javed Mahmood Bukhari (Retd). The Vice President of CAHE, and former Vice Minister of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission of China, Guan Peijun, presided over the meeting.


Leaders from China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, and representatives of the 82 member universities of the CPEC Consortium of Universities, were present at the conference. The Founder, and Chairman of the Board of Sias University, Dr. Shawn Chen, was invited to attend the conference on behalf of Sias.


At the conference, Du Yubo spoke on behalf of CAHE, and Shafkat Mehmood spoke on behalf of the Ministry of Education of Pakistan. There were also speeches by Qiu Pingping, Shu Wei, Moin ul Haq, Nong Rong, and Shaista Sohail. Since the establishment of the CPEC Consortium of Universities, the fields of cooperation between China and Pakistan have been continuously expanding and the results have contributed to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.


After the speeches, Chen Zhimin and Safdar Ali Shah delivered the 2019-20 work report on behalf of the China-Pakistan Secretariat of the Alliance Exchange Mechanism.


The conference held the inauguration of the 'China-Pakistan Institute of Higher Education', as well as the launch of a new learning platform, and the release of the 2019-2020 development report on the Exchange Mechanism of the CPEC Consortium of Universities.


In the afternoon, 16 Chinese and Pakistani experts and scholars presented reports at two sub-forums on the themes of "Promoting the High-Quality Development of China-Pakistan Higher-Education Cooperation" and "Opportunities and Challenges of China-Pakistan 'Water Food Energy Security Network' during the Pandemic".
