Sias University held the opening ceremony of its 23rd International Culture Week at the Moscow Red Square (Cultural Town) on November 1. The International Culture Week will be held from November 1 to 6, and will celebrate specific regions and their cultures for each day of the week - China Day, Asia Day, Latin America & Africa Day, Europe Day, and North America & Australia Day - culminating in the extravaganza that is the International Culture Week Finale.
A number of dignitaries were present at the opening ceremony including:
- former First-Class Inspector at the Henan Department of Culture & Tourism, and Deputy Director of the Committee of Experts on Cultural Tourism at the Henan Research Center for Public Culture, Kang Jie;
- Director of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Office at the Henan Department of Culture & Tourism, Yu Jie;
- Deputy Director of the Personnel Department at the Henan Department of Culture & Tourism, Wang Yafei;
- Curator of the Henan Cultural Museum, Feng Li;
- Curator of the Henan Art Museum, Yu Huijian;
- Director of the Henan Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, Chu Xiaolong;
- Director of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Department at the Henan Cultural Museum, Yao Xiangkui;
- Director of the Office of the Henan Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, Yang Zhizuo;
- Vice-Chairman of the Zhengzhou Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Chu Yankai;
- Vice-Chairman of the Henan Folk Artists Association, and Chairman of the Zhengzhou Folk Artists Association, Liang Junfeng;
- Chairman of the Xinzheng Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Yue Jianhua;
- Secretary-General of the Zhengzhou Folk Artists Association, Xu Min.
Also present was the Founder, and Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen; Sias Party Secretary, Ma Jiansheng; Acting President, Zhao Yuxin; Deputy Party Secretary, and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, Li Huafeng; Vice President, Xu Shengdao; Vice President, and Chairman of the Trade Union, Wu Hua; and Vice President, Zheng Min. The Director of Sias' Office of International Affairs, Yue Junliang, presided over the opening ceremony.
In his opening speech, Zhao Yuxin welcomed the guests on behalf of Sias. He said that the International Culture Week had been held for 22 years and is an important tradition of the university with a significant role in Sias' culture. He said that he hoped that Chinese and international students would use this opportunity to learn about each others' cultures, enrich and improve their lives, and contribute to the increase of internationalization at Sias. He encouraged those present to immerse themselves in the week's activities and academic lectures that crossed boundaries of nationality and language.
Ma Jiansheng then presented 'Visiting Professor' Letters of Appointment to Feng Li, Yu Huijian, Chu Xiaolong, and Yao Xiangkui.
Kang Jie and Dr. Shawn Chen then inaugurated the traditional lion dance, and Zhao Yuxin officially announced the opening of Sias University's 23rd International Culture Week.
After the opening ceremony, there were several traditional Chinese folk art performances, a raree show, sugar blowing, a Guzheng performance, a Kung Fu performance, and a Hanfu Etiquette Ceremony. The set-up at the (Moscow) Red Square included an outdoor photography exhibition and an exhibition by the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Center.
The theme of the 23rd International Culture Week is "Innovation leads the Future, and Culture promotes Exchanges".
