20th Annual Homecoming Day Held at Our School

On May 27th, the 20th Homecoming Day was held, with the campus featuring an endless stream of delightful experiences. Night garden events, special concerts, float competitions, a host of campus cultural performances, as well as the Alumni Summit were held, all combining together to offer a diverse and engaging environment for both students and guests alike to immerse themselves in.

Beginning at 8:30 am, accompanied by spirited music, a large parade of floats kicked off the events of Homecoming Day. A wide array of floats in creative styles and features each helped to highlight the defining characteristics of science, technology, and multiculturalism of the school vividly displayed the essence of our school’s commitment to showcasing the compatibility of Chinese and Western knowledge and action. The floats also demonstrated the youthful vitality and optimism of SIAS students, creating a positive, pioneering, and innovative campus cultural atmosphere.

After this, Homecoming Day celebrations continued at the Opera House. In attendance were Tisa Mason, President of Fort Hays State University; Jill Arensdorff, Provost; Enan Galaly, Chair of the Advisory Council of the World Association of University Presidents; Shi Kan, Director of the Social and Organizational Behavior Research Center of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Jiao Jiangong, Director of Huangdi Cultural Innovation Development Foundation; Jeff Willis, Director of International Department, Kansas Department of Commerce, USA; Jian Shumei, Director of Greater China Affairs, Jerrie Ueberle, Founder of the World Academy for the Future of Women, as well as College Management colleagues of the College System International Forum and other returning alumni. All were invited to attend the ceremonies, and members of the school’s leadership team also attended the ceremony.

Dr. Shawn Chen, the Founder and Chairman of the Board of SIAS University then delivered a speech. There he said that after 25 years of development, the quality and level of education at SIAS have continued to improve, with the positive results of the education being offered here being experienced by everyone involved. As a traditional activity of SIAS, the Homecoming Day Celebration has become an important showcase of our school’s achievement in creating a vibrant campus culture. Students exercise their cooperative teamwork ability, the cultivation of friendship and camaraderie through expert lectures, literature, and art performances. They also look forward to experts, leaders, and other representatives participating in the ceremonial events. All this contribute to further solidifying SIAS’s presence in the historic heartland of China as a premier educational institution for the benefit of the people.

In his speech, Zhang Lunshan, the parent’s representative, thanked our school for the comprehensive care of the students. He said that SIAS is student-oriented and encourages students to “return to the essence of education,” and provides a rich and nourishing soil for the growth of students.

Later, Professor Shi Kan exchanged books with Dr. Shawn Chen, Library Director Xie Linhui, and other faculty representatives. Dr. Shawn Chen and Dr. Tisa Mason also exchanged gifts.

After the ceremony, a theatrical performance was held. “Spring Breeze of A Hundred Thousand Miles,” “Liyuan Zui,” “Blood Block,” “Unknown Flower,” “Burning,” “Ancient Style and Modern Rhyme,” “XI You He Hua,” “Come Together to Love Dance,” “Ode to Joy,” and other artistic performances stunned the audience. Traditional culture and modern art continuously were harmoniously fused with one another, progressively building up towards the celebration’s climax. Combined together, these events demonstrated the positive mental outlook SIAS students, who are full of vigor and exuberance.

At the Alumni Summit in the afternoon, Dr. Shawn Chen held a cordial conversation with returning alumni, looking back on the past and gazing forward into the future. Wang Ning, the distinguished alumni representative and the founder and chairman of Beijing Pop Mart Culture Creative Co., Ltd., presented a talk to everyone present.

During the day, our school also hosted a series of expert academic lectures, 2023 graduation design exhibition, parents exchange conference, college debate invitational, basketball tournament, a fluorescent lights night run and many other activities, all of which helped students, guests, and faculty enjoy a shared relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. All of these memorable events were a display of the student’s talents and achievements, but were also display of a characteristic Chinese education and cultural development theories, which together promote the overall development and healthy growth of the students.
