In order to strengthen the construction of Sias’s academic style, improve students’ English proficiency, and create a positive English learning atmosphere on campus, the Sias English Corner Phase Four was held in French Garden on November 1. With the theme of “East meets West, bring a beautiful world,” the event was jointly organized by Student Affairs Office, the General College of Residential Colleges, and Mingli Residential College. Professor Lucy Lu, Provost and Vice President of Sias University, attended the event, while administrative leaders of Mingli Residential College, the Communist Youth League of Sias Primary School, international and Chinese faculty and students, and representatives from the Global Youth Camp participated in the event activities.

At the beginning of the event, a cultural differences display activity was carried out. Students delved into the fascinating realms of Chinese and Western architecture, classical music, and traditional costumes, showcasing their insights and freely exchanging ideas. A series of performances followed, where participants were able to appreciate the intricate essence of Chinese and Western architectural designs, the enchanting charm of music, and the exquisite beauty of attire.

Following the presentation, students were organized into various groups for interactive discussions, focusing on four topics: “Similarities between Chinese and Western Cultures,” “Differences between Chinese and Western Cultures,” “Where Chinese and Western Cultures Can Merge and Innovate,” and “Understanding the School Motto: East meets West, integrating knowledge with practice.” Professor Lucy Lu actively participated in these discussions, engaging in lively conversations with the students. In her speech, Prof. Lucy emphasized the importance of embracing diverse cultures with an open mindset, highlighting that compatibility between Chinese and Western cultures can greatly enrich one’s knowledge and broaden horizons. Furthermore, Prof. Lucy encouraged students to boldly speak English and enhance language skills. She emphasized that this not only aids in linguistic proficiency but also fosters self-confidence and cross-cultural communication abilities.

2024 Sias English Corner Phase Four at Mingli Residential College has been successfully concluded, offering an excellent platform for oral English communication. Students, regardless of their varying proficiency levels, found immense joy in engaging with one another, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and shared learning. The range of fascinating topics discussed encompass everything from campus life to international culture, and from personal hobbies to ambitious future dreams. The robust English learning atmosphere cultivated by this event will undoubtedly continue to motivate Sias students in their pursuit of English mastery, setting a firm foundation for their future endeavors in English language acquisition and cross-cultural communication.
