On December 9th, the climactic final round of the "Daxiang Live-Streamer" Competition, a joint initiative between the School of Journalism and Communication and Daxiang MCN of Elephant News, unfolded in the lecture hall located on the first floor of Building 16. The event was honored by the presence of Dr. Shawn Chen, Founder and Chairman of Sias University; Ma Jiansheng, Secretary of the CPC Sias Committee; Zhao Yuxin, Vice President and Secretary of the CPC Sias Commission for Discipline Inspection; Zhu Lin, Director of the Industry Department at Elephant News of Henan Broadcasting System (HBS); and Yan Hongyan, Head of E-commerce Business at Daxiang MCN. Furthermore, the occasion was enriched by the attendance of administrative leaders from the School of Journalism and Communication, ZhiShan Residential College, and SiQi Residential College, alongside faculty and student representatives from the School of Journalism and Communication. The competition was adeptly hosted by Huang Haihong, Selection Officer from Daxiang MCN.
Prior to the competition, Zhao Yuxin and Zhu Lin each delivered inspiring speeches. Zhao Yuxin emphasized that Sias remains committed to deepening university-enterprise cooperation and production and education integration. He highlighted that this competition serves as a catalyst for promoting learning and teaching, ultimately aiming to nurture more high-quality applied talents for societal benefit. Zhu Lin, on the other hand, stressed that in the era of the mobile internet, both professional knowledge and market awareness hold equal importance.
The final round of the competition was divided into three exciting tracks: "Content Live-streaming," "Short Video E-commerce," and "Live-streaming E-commerce." Each segment shone brightly, showcasing remarkable talent and creativity.
In the "Content Live-streaming" track, five teams presented their live-streaming ideas through PPT presentations, and the judges posed questions regarding these proposals. The 10Xing Team upholds that "sincerity is always the key to success," intending to persist in the model of "combining MAG (Manga, Anime and Games) with group live-streaming" to drive further traffic growth. Meanwhile, the Five-Nut Mooncake team aims to explore the diverse potential of the live-streaming industry by collaborating with other streamers and showcasing their talents through online streamer competitions. The MuNan team selected a highly popular game as the content for their live-streaming, leveraging on the characteristics of the game to create tutorial content to captivate audiences. With a solid fan base and an excellent team collaboration, the XiBao Team has achieved remarkable success in the competition. They plan to enhance audience retention by showcasing talents and fostering active interaction. Despite current limited traffic, the Meow Meow Meow Team hopes to fully demonstrate their strengths through engaging chat and interaction with viewers.
In the "Short Video E-commerce" category, five teams showcased their prowess in leveraging short videos for product promotion. Team Micky5 emphasized the significance of effective product demonstrations as the linchpin for enticing purchases. Recognizing their shortcomings, the Delta Black Market Team proposed enhancements to address the issues of “lacking standout moments and the absence of real people in their videos.” The Happy Planet No Cilantro Team achieved remarkable success by skillfully blending graphics and text to present their products, while the AnXiao Team distinguished themselves through their exceptional editing prowess. Team Ginseng opted to create playlet to captivate viewers, with plans to elevate their product pitching by refining the story line.
The competition in the "Live-streaming E-commerce" track was equally intense. The XiaoBai Team expressed that while this marks the conclusion of the competition, it also signifies the beginning of their fresh endeavor. They will further delve into the depths of live-streaming, cultivate a loyal fan base, and foster enhanced audience engagement. The NaiChaW Team imparted their insights on acquiring a grasp of live streaming terminology. Meanwhile, the WoolStar Team opted to broadcast products that have garnered public attention and devised a multifaceted live streaming format. Team ShuangJi exhibited proficiency in live-streaming jargon, garnering applause from the audience. The WYSXF Team shared their ordeal of being compelled to halt a live stream due to an unsuitable venue selection, offering invaluable lessons to fellow contestants.
After a rigorous scoring process, the winners of each track in the competition have been determined. In the "Content Live-streaming" track, Team XiBao, Team 10Xing, and Team MuNan emerged victorious, earning applause from the audience. In the "Short Video E-commerce" track, Team AnXiao, Team Happy Planet No Cilantro, and Team Ginseng secured the first, second, and third places respectively. Meanwhile, in the "Live-streaming E-commerce" track, Team WoolStar, Team ShuangJi, and Team XiaoBai were awarded the first, second, and third prizes. Additionally, the instructors of the first prize teams in each track were honored with an Outstanding Instructor Award, recognizing their outstanding guidance and contribution to the teams’ success.
At the end of the competition, Dr. Chen underscored the importance of leveraging the power of the internet and live streaming. He urged students to not only embrace these platforms but also to delve deeper into the business models driving them. By fostering innovative thinking, students can transform their professional knowledge into practical abilities, creating value through their unique perspectives and skills.
Indeed, the success of the "Daxiang Live-Streamer" Competition is a testament to the School of Journalism and Communication's commitment to innovative learning and teaching practices. This competition not only served as a platform for students to showcase their talents and skills but also as an opportunity to explore the potential of university-enterprise cooperation.
