On March 24, Sias University held a symposium marking the 15th anniversary of its residential college system at the lecture hall on the seventh floor of the Student Activity Center. Centered on the theme “Reflecting on Fifteen Years of Progress, Charting a New Course for the Future,” the conference systematically reviewed achievements in student development, explored innovative pathways for residential college construction and talent cultivation in the AI era, and mapped out strategies for high-quality development.

Dr. Shawn Chen, Founder and Chairman of the Board, Niu Xiaoyu, Party Secretary, Wu Hua, Deputy Party Secretary and Executive Vice President, and Vice President Yuan Guanglin attended the event. Heads of relevant administrative departments, academic schools, residential colleges, and all student mentors were also present. The symposium was chaired by Wu Hua.

In his opening remarks, Wu Hua reviewed the development of the university’s residential college reform. Since its launch in 2011, the university has upheld the principle of “putting students first and returning to the essence of education,” with moral education as its core mission. It has established the largest and most comprehensive residential college system in Central China, developed a distinctive “dual-college” collaborative education model, and actively promoted AI-integrated curricula and smart residential colleges. These efforts have shaped an innovative pathway characterized by holistic education and the integration of multiple dimensions of student development.

During the symposium, representatives from the university’s ten residential colleges, along with leaders from the Student Affairs Office and Academic Affairs Office, delivered presentations. They reviewed theoretical innovations and practical experiences, analyzed existing challenges and areas for improvement, and proposed strategic measures and long-term plans to overcome bottlenecks and enhance the residential college model.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Shawn Chen affirmed the achievements made over the past 15 years. He emphasized that in the AI era, the core mission of higher education is to cultivate innovative talents who can meet the demands of the times. As a key platform for student development, residential colleges should not only nurture interdisciplinary talents with strong academic foundations but also develop individuals capable of identifying problems, driving innovation, and leading future progress.

He outlined key priorities for the next phase of development: strengthening the “dual-college” collaborative model to reinforce educational foundations; promoting deeper integration between general education and specialized education to stimulate students’ creativity; and accelerating the development of smart residential colleges by leveraging technology to enhance the entire education process, thereby establishing a distinctive Sias model for the AI era and improving overall talent cultivation quality.

The symposium further unified understanding across the university and built strong momentum for the high-quality development of the residential college system. Standing at a new starting point, Sias University will take this opportunity to advance AI+X initiatives and smart residential college development, cultivate core digital competencies among faculty and students, address development challenges, and continuously optimize its educational model. The university aims to nurture high-quality, application-oriented talents with global vision, humanistic values, social responsibility, and innovative thinking.
