On the evening of May 11, ahead of the 115th International Nurses Day, the School of Medicine held a celebration ceremony at the Opera House Theater. Dr. Shawn Chen, Founder and Chairman of the University, along with other university leaders, attended the event. Faculty members and students of the School of Medicine gathered together to celebrate the occasion through speeches, the traditional cap-lighting ceremony, award presentations, and artistic performances.

.The celebration opened in a warm and solemn atmosphere. Dr. Shawn Chen extended holiday greetings to all faculty members and students of the School of Medicine and shared three expectations. First, he encouraged the integration of AI technology with teaching and professional education to promote educational innovation. Second, he emphasized carrying forward the spirit of nursing and embracing Florence Nightingale’s dedication of “burning oneself to light others” through the cap-lighting tradition. Third, he called for stronger unity among faculty and students to support the high-quality development of the School of Medicine.

Bai Qin, Dean of the School of Medicine, spoke on the theme of “empowerment” for this year’s International Nurses Day. She encouraged students to combine technological skills with compassion and become indispensable healthcare professionals. She also urged teachers to break disciplinary boundaries and lead interdisciplinary development, while calling on the entire school to focus on the university’s long-term development goals and build a distinctive “AI + Healthcare” brand.

During the cap-lighting ceremony, senior nurses and faculty representatives placed the traditional nursing caps on students and passed on the candlelight symbolizing the spirit of nursing. Facing the Nightingale Pledge, all nursing students took a solemn oath, promising dedication and loyalty to their profession. Their powerful voices reflected the professional values and sense of responsibility of a new generation of nursing students.

During the ceremony, awards were presented to outstanding faculty members and students who achieved excellence in teaching, research, academic competitions, and academic performance. The recognition encouraged all faculty and students to strive for excellence and continue pursuing higher achievements.

Following the ceremony, faculty members and students presented a variety of self-directed performances. With diverse formats and meaningful themes, the performances showcased the positive spirit, compassion, and youthful energy of the School of Medicine community.

The celebration further strengthened the professional commitment of faculty and students to “respect life and serve with great compassion.” Looking ahead, the School of Medicine will continue to follow the university’s long-term development plan, promote the deep integration of digital intelligence and humanistic education, and cultivate future healthcare professionals who are skilled, compassionate, and responsible, contributing to the Healthy China initiative with the strength of Sias.
