SIAS University Holds Progress Meeting on the Development of Key Disciplines and Research Institutes

To further strengthen the development of the University’s key disciplines and research institutes and enhance the quality of academic programs and research innovation capacity, SIAS University convened a Progress Meeting on Key Discipline and Research Institute Development on the morning of May 20 in Conference Room C331 of the Student Activity Center.

The meeting was attended by Vice President Zhao Yuxin and Vice President Yuan Guanglin, along with all staff members of the Office of Research Affairs and the directors of the University’s key disciplines and research institutes.

At the meeting, Gao Sheng, Deputy Director of the Office of Research Affairs, presented the University’s regulations on the management of funding for key disciplines and research institutes. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that research funds are used in a standardized, efficient, and accountable manner, with a focus on producing high-level and impactful research outcomes.

The heads of each key discipline and research institute subsequently delivered reports on their achievements during 2025 and the first half of 2026, as well as the challenges encountered and their plans for future development. The reports provided a comprehensive overview of progress in areas such as team development, talent cultivation, platform development, research output, community engagement, and the application and commercialization of research outcomes.

In his concluding remarks, Yuan Guanglin commended the significant progress achieved by the University’s key disciplines and research institutes over the past year. He also outlined four priorities for future development.

First, he emphasized the need to further refine research directions, optimize research management mechanisms, and improve the quality of research outcomes to enhance overall research effectiveness and impact. Second, he called for deeper advancement of key discipline development, with particular attention to industry–education integration and community engagement, strengthening the University’s capacity to support industrial transformation and regional development. Third, he stressed the importance of strengthening responsibility for talent recruitment and development by incorporating high-level talent cultivation and recruitment into performance evaluation systems, while continuously improving talent development mechanisms and advancing institutional reforms. Fourth, he highlighted the need for effective coordination and management of development funds to maximize resource utilization, stimulate the enthusiasm and creativity of faculty and researchers, and further empower the University’s disciplinary development and research innovation efforts.

The meeting further unified strategic thinking, clarified development priorities, and reinforced accountability for implementation. Participants expressed their commitment to using the meeting as an opportunity to take proactive action, strengthen execution, and advance the development of key disciplines and research institutes in a practical and results-oriented manner. These efforts will provide strong support for the University’s pursuit of high-quality, sustainable, and innovation-driven development.
