To thoroughly implement aesthetic education initiatives and promote the development of the “Great Ideological and Political Education” (Great Ideological and Political Course), our university held the 2026 choir competition titled “Youth in Harmony, Singing the Voice of the Era” on June 10 in Concert Hall II.
Set against the historical context of the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army and the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the event brought together more than one thousand students from all residential colleges across the university.
Through choral performances, students passed on revolutionary spirit and expressed the ideals of the new era.
University Party Secretary Niu Xiaoyu and other university leaders attended the event. Renowned choral conductor and educator Wu Lingfen, Artistic Director of the SIAS Choir, along with relevant department heads and representatives of faculty and students from each residential college, also attended the competition.

The competition opened in a solemn yet enthusiastic atmosphere.
In his speech, Party Secretary Niu Xiaoyu stated that this choir competition is a flagship activity reflecting the university’s efforts to implement “Fivefold Education” (moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education) and to promote the deep integration of the second classroom with professional practice. He emphasized that students expressed the purest strength of youth through the most sincere voices, demonstrating the effective results of the university’s “dual-college collaborative education” model.
To break down barriers between music majors and non-majors, the university organized choir members into “regular cooperation groups” to establish long-term peer support mechanisms. This initiative not only promoted the deep integration of the second classroom with professional practice, but also created a closed-loop model of “artistic mutual assistance,” effectively advancing the coordinated development of first and second classrooms. It serves as a representative example of innovation in the university’s aesthetic education practices.

At the competition, ten residential college teams took the stage in turn.
The participating teams delivered powerful and uplifting choral performances with sincere emotion, showcasing the positive and energetic spirit of SIAS students.

After the performances, Wu Lingfen provided professional feedback.
She highly praised the vocal quality and overall performance of each team, as well as their spirit and stage presence. Drawing on her own professional experience, she shared insights into the art of choral music and encouraged students to learn collaboration through choir practice, stay committed to their passion, and let artistic cultivation accompany them throughout their lives.
She also expressed her best wishes for the continued development of the university’s choral program and campus aesthetic education.

After the evaluation session, all teachers and students in the audience stood up together and sang the university anthem, “My SIAS.”
The uplifting melody brought the atmosphere to its peak. Everyone expressed their shared emotions through song, creating a powerful sense of unity and collectively envisioning the future development of the campus.

This choir competition was not only a wonderful artistic performance, but also a subtle and impactful ideological and political education session.
All participating students paid tribute to revolutionary predecessors through song, deepened their sense of national identity and responsibility, and strengthened their aspirations to serve the country.
In the future, the university will continue to deepen reforms in aesthetic education, promote the integration of professional education with aesthetic practice, and strive to cultivate well-rounded young people of the new era with moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor development.
