To further strengthen teachers, instructional foundations and enhance classroom teaching effectiveness and overall professional competencies, SIAS University held the finals of the 2026 University-Level Teaching Skills Competition on June 4 in the T19 Teaching Building.

The competition was jointly organized by the Academic Affairs Office and the University Labor Union. Zhao Yuxin, Vice President of the university, attended the event. Award-winning teachers from previous provincial teaching skills competitions were also invited to serve as judges.

The competition followed a rigorous and standardized evaluation process designed to comprehensively assess participants’ classroom teaching performance, instructional reflection, and professional growth capabilities.

During the teaching demonstration session, 70 teachers who advanced through the preliminary round were randomly assigned a teaching topic and delivered a 20-minute lesson presentation. Each participant demonstrated clear instructional design, flexible teaching strategies, and strong classroom management skills, while showcasing their unique teaching style and expertise.

Following each presentation, the judging panel provided on-site feedback, posed questions, and conducted quantitative evaluations. Participants then engaged in reflective teaching discussions, examining their educational philosophy, teaching methods, and instructional process. Through this reflection, they analyzed both the strengths of their lessons and areas for further improvement.

Zhao Yuxin carefully observed the competition, listened attentively to the participants’ presentations, and provided targeted feedback and concluding remarks.

He emphasized that instructional design should fully explore the distinctive features of each course and highlight key strengths of classroom teaching. He also encouraged faculty members to further improve the quality of their teaching materials and enhance their presentation design skills, particularly in the development of effective PowerPoint resources. By fostering more engaging and efficient learning environments, teachers can continue to refine their teaching practices and contribute to higher-quality instruction.

He noted that the competition serves as an important platform for promoting teaching innovation, advancing educational research, and enhancing instructional quality, ultimately supporting the university’s ongoing efforts to improve teaching effectiveness and academic excellence.

The competition received strong support and widespread participation from departments and units across the university. Extensive efforts were made to promote the event and ensure its successful organization through careful planning and coordination.

Throughout the competition, the university implemented a comprehensive support system that included pre-competition training, ongoing guidance during the event, and post-competition review sessions. These initiatives helped foster a vibrant educational culture centered on enhancing innovation and improving teaching through competition.

Moving forward, the university will continue to organize a variety of teaching competitions and educational research activities on a regular basis. By further strengthening faculty development and professional growth programs, the university aims to encourage instructors to deepen their engagement with classroom teaching, refine their pedagogical skills, and continuously improve both teaching quality and student development outcomes.
